Tradition.
The IT Crowd was actually a fun to watch. Why didn’t I know about this show before. The main theme of the first few episodes. Have you restart your machine? Is the switch on? hahaha That was my star questions! A good start of me being in IT roles. Back then there was not many handphones around. Email worked faster than a telephone call to put out a fire. When I pictured these things back then, sounds kind of familiar. But, back then, we did memorise the phone number of every single person that we know. If not, they are just a phone book away. All these had gone away when we started using handphone. I was in the Uni and needs my somebody to pick me up. I hadn’t have my driving license yet. My phone battery died. Charger at home. Nokia handphone… Most helpless thing on earth and there were nobody too. Quite late in the evening after a project meet up. I went to the cafeteria and saw the public phone. Need coins. Finally gathered enough, but I don’t remember the hp number and how to call.
I forgot what happened afterwards. I am not sure if I walked home, managed to guess the phone number by memory recalling, someone came to pick me up anyway…
I remembered the events but not what happened after. Memories. They are slowly going away.
Abbreviations beyond abbreviations were common when we tried to send a message. Sometimes, I am not willing to do so but as phone bill getting more and more expensive and your text which can be sent in one was sent out in 3. Triple the price. Those were the college days.
